First time posting, Last Exile is one of my favs and I'm so glad I came across this site as it's enabled me to learn more about it!
My curiosity is in regards to the Anatoray and Disith Symbols. I know that the banner in the Anatoray symbol says "Reach for the sky ANATORAY Reach for the sky". But there is lettering going up the blade that I can't fully make out. As well as on the Disith Symbol, there is small lettering above "Disith". I was curious if anyone knew what they say?

Actually, based on what's published in the Aerial Log (page 10), the banner in the symbol of Anatoray says "Reach for the sky ANATORAY Reach for victory". The lettering on the blade says "the road of the sky".
Thanks! I have that book but I must have missed that. I love finding intricate little details like that in shows I'm really fond of and Last Exile is no exception. Do we know what the lettering above Disith is?

I too tried eyeballing what are in the artbooks and it's pretty near impossible to make out. But I may fiddle to try to scan and see if any kind of super HQ scan can make anything easier. Otherwise I'll poke around in my image folders but I dunno if they ever had a really high quality version of Disith's symbol. :/a
Hello I am back after some sleuthing through my stuff! And there's a high quality version of the Disith symbol in the first series novel. Here are some scans! Even though a full page Disith symbol STILL makes that text weird, because of that weird shadow effect it has on it lmao.
I do not have a good eye for this sort of thing, so maybe TK can take the proper reins from here. But I can make out "Some(??? maybe somehow, someway, someday, someone?) W(?? it looks like it's just a W, if that, but maybe it's a we?) back to the field"...? OR SOMETHING.
Anyway here. I hope it helps! ♥

Spoiler
Thanks Tara! It helps a lot, although I still have a problem with the first word, which does not make sense.
What Corny says is almost correct, however according to the rules of the LE alphabet "omega" translates into "W", not "O". I also spot a dot after the capital omega and a "chi" instead of a "psi" in the word "Back".
So I read “Σομεπω Ω. Βαχκ το τηε φιελδ”, which turns into “Somepw W. Back to the field”
It seems to me that the problem is with the two letters in red: pi - omega:
- pi... what if it's tau + iota (τι)
- omega: … I can’t figure out if it’s something else...

Ah, didn't know about that, thanks!-TK- wrote: What Corny says is almost correct, however according to the rules of the LE alphabet "omega" translates into "W", not "O".
Oh, that was actually a typo on my part. That's definitely a χ (chi).-TK- wrote: I also spot a dot after the capital omega and a "chi" instead of a "psi" in the word "Back".
Anyway, about those two mystery letters: If the π is actually τι (good idea!), maybe it's supposed to mean "sometime"?
Σομετιμε
Okay, the ε might be stretch, but it could be a μ after the τι!
